BARIATRIC PRE-SURGICAL PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS

  • Dr. McLean provides high quality comprehensive mental health assessments for bariatric patients in order to ensure the patient is an appropriate candidate for bariatric surgery and is psychologically prepared to undergo the process.

  • The assessment process involves a one on one clinical interview with Dr. McLean. The interview will  cover motivation for bariatric surgery, weight and diet history, eating habits, social support systems, mental health history and any barriers that may prevent weight loss.

  • Patients will then be asked to complete three psychological inventories.

  • With your permission Dr. McLean may consult with your surgeon and treating medical providers. A formal report is compiled and submitted to your surgeon’s office.

  • If there are any areas of concern you will be informed and a treatment plan will be developed in order to help you attain your goals.

  • Dr. McLean will offer suggestions to make the required life adjustments both pre and post operatively in order for each patient to be as successful as possible.

  • The primary goal of the evaluation is to increase the chances of successful surgery and weight loss.
